Dorothy isn’t in Kansas anymore…she’s in an Italian Easter Weekend

21 Apr

Hello Bloggiesss

Happy almost Friday!! Tomorrow is Good Friday. Do you care? Maybe you do, maybe you don’t. But let me clue you in on what my day will be all about tomorrow…PESCE (fish for my non-fellow (real) italians (no guidos please)). As a descendant of real Italians and therefore real Italian tradition, my world will be all about the little fishies tomorrow. Cause you eat fish on Good Friday. And Italians love to cook. And my mother is of Tuscan descent. Therefore, good fish is made on good Friday. Want me to write ‘good’ again? ya I didn’t think so 😉 Anywhooo, my mother makes this amazing Cioppino that is like whoa. But before I get to that, lets review my day.

It started a little something like this:

and my hair looked a little like this after 2 min outside:

ok ok, maybe more like this…I really shouldn’t exaggerate 😉

you think I’m joking..no really..half my hair always seems to stay fine while the other half goes bananas

which moves us nicely into the next event…

BREAKFAST..

Strawberry cheesecake banana oats for breakfast..yum 🙂

And then I was all planned to go to the gym to go running. Really, I was. I love to run. I told you that and I didn’t lie to you. Its just…well..how do I say..como se dice…DIDN’T FEEL LIKE IT. guess what? I didn’t yesterday either. My muscles were saying NO MAMA and I listened. How macho am I? I should suck it up, tell my muscles to stick it where the sun dont shine. But they won. oh well. life will go on. I’ll run everyday for the rest of my life 🙂 (well I shouldn’t lie to you)

Lunch was just eaten with mah best friend and we ate ice cream. yup, I did that too. And its ok, cause I’ll run tomorrow. Oh, and I had Gnocchi soup. Think I’m reaving up for an Italian food weekend? maybe so. I guess today is le cheat day. le big fat ginormous cheat day.

But back to my mothers Cioppino and how I will probably be eating it tomorrow night. See, fish must be eaten on Good Friday and my mother usually gets requests for her Cioppino. Cioppino is a tomato based fish stew that is eaten with crusty Italian Ciabatta. My mother typically uses Salmon (yum), Muscles (yum yum), some white fish (Tilapia or Cod) and Shrimp. It is soooo good. She doesn’t have a recipe but it is basically Giada De Laurentiis recipe, which trust me, is no surprise cause the two ladies are basically the same.

The final result: yummness

Don’t be intimidated by this dish or Italian cooking in general. Us Tuscans, we don’t do the big, heavy, Italian food. We do light, rustic, simple, basic meals. They are delish. And really easier than you think. Do not buy frozen garlic bread. Buy a crusty loaf of Ciabatta and some garlic and olive oil. Literally toast, spread the garlic and olive oil, throw on some pepper and you will be amazed. When people eat at my house they are always amazed by my mothers cooking. She makes everything from scratch, always has. But the truth is, its really not hard and it doesn’t take long. I highly recommend you try this recipe and its super healthy!

I hope you have a wonderful holiday weekend and eat lots of chocolate goody!!!

Ciao

AMYS BREAD !!!!!!!

really? you say.. the best??

oh yes, the best. Don’t believe me? I’ll let the pictures do the talking

uhhh huhh told ya. This is my favorite. Classic Yellow with milk chocolate frosting.  But this is not your run of the mill overly sugary frosting..no no.. otherwise I would not approve. I am not a gritty sugary frosting gal, not much of a frosting gal at that. No, this frosting is creamy, fluffy, smooth, almost whippy, and oh so chocolaty. My madre actually eats it and she hates frosting. No, she loves it. anywho, more pictures 🙂

Did silly me forget to also mention that they make delishiously amazingly yummy cake/bread and other stuff??? well, now you know

My brother just had the chocolate twists and he is obsessed

Yup, this is serious

The Cinnamon rolls are amazing

THIS PLACE IS AMAZING. The food is fresh, baked goods fresh from the oven, the atmosphere is all warm and fuzzy, and you will love everything you get! Trust me, do not go to the city and not make a stop here! Buy anything, I recommend the cupcakes but if you are not a cupcake person, get some bread or a pastry. The food is so yum and its my NYC secret that I am telling you so I hope you take note 🙂

Locations are in Hells Kitchen, Chelsea Market, and Greenwich Village

the link is here: http://www.amysbread.com/locate.htm
